Jason Uribe
Jason Uribe is the urban garden manager at People’s Grocery. With the help of interns and volunteers, he manage two small gardens in North Oakland, and will soon open a much larger garden in raised beds on top of a parking lot in West Oakland. He also runs the Grub Box for People’s Grocery, a Community Supported Agriculture program that he has adapted to serve West Oakland.
In the first interview, Jason talks about growing up in rural Utah and Oakland, learning to garden from mentors and through his earlier job at Berkeley Youth Alternatives, his approach to growing a lot of food in a small space, and the challenges and promises of growing food in Oakland.
